Long Bay - Okura Great Park Society

The Long Bay Okura Great Park Society was formed in 1996 to convince local, regional and central government to work together with us for the creation of a 1000 acre Great Park at Long Bay - Okura in North Auckland. In order to preserve this coastline this vision still remains however due to the impact on impending urbanisation of the area our efforts are now concentrated on saving the existing rural aspect and environmental values of the present parkland and protecting the adjacent marine reserve.

We are always grateful for donation to help the environmental work being done by the society to protect the Long Bay Okura Marine and Land Reserves. Click here to Donate. All donations are tax-deductible and will receive a tax receipt.

Don’t miss Raewyn Peart from EDS speaking at the Long Bay Okura Great Park Society AGM, 28 April

Guest speaker Raewyn Peart, Policy Director for the Environmental Defence Society (EDS), will be speaking about the current changes to our environmental policies and how this affects the Long Bay Okura Marine Reserve and coastline.

For over four decades EDS has been fighting for the protection of the New Zealand environment, developing policy, litigating environmentally significant cases, and advancing education through publications and conferences. Raewyn Peart has been at the forefront of this work. She has a background in law and economics, a long list of publications to her name, many dealing with the marine environment, and plays a major role in the annual EDS conferences that bring together environmental groups, government agencies, academics, the business community and politicians for the advancement of environmental protection. We look forward to hearing Raewyn’s take on the worrisome Fast-track Approvals Bill (see below). We are indeed very privileged to have Raewyn address us at our AGM, and welcome everybody to attend.
